Niseko Annupuri Ski Resort Description

Lodge 401 Niseko is tucked into the quiet side of Mt. Niseko-Annupuri. The name “Niseko Annupuri” is derived from the indigenous Ainu language: “Nisei ko an nupuri” means “mountain of the river toward the cliff,”. Annupuri Ski Resort offers world-class powder, wide-open groomers, and easy access to the entire Niseko United area. With 13 diverse trails, a 756m vertical drop, and over 15 meters of annual snowfall, Annupuri is ideal for families, powder lovers, and anyone seeking a more peaceful ski experience. Enjoy minimal crowds, stunning backcountry, and authentic Hokkaido charm—all in one unforgettable destination.

History of Annupuri Ski Resort

A Brief History of
Annupuri Ski Resort

Annupuri Ski Resort opened in 1972 as part of Hokkaido’s growing reputation for deep, reliable snowfall and winter tourism. Built on the southwest face of Mt. Niseko-Annupuri, it was developed with a focus on natural terrain, minimal crowds, and access to some of the region’s best powder.

Over the years, Annupuri became known for its quiet, laid-back atmosphere, attracting families and powder purists alike. It joined forces with neighboring resorts—Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village, and Hanazono—to form Niseko United, allowing seamless access across four mountains via a unified lift pass.

While other parts of Niseko became hotspots for international visitors, Annupuri retained its local charm and traditional Japanese feel, making it a favorite for powder hounds seeking a more authentic, relaxed ski experience.
